Lately God is trying to work more gentleness and humility into me. It is a daunting task, for sure, because I am, for one, an American!
While getting ready to write this morning, I tried to find the Bible verse that God most recently used to impress on me my need for humility. As is often His way, I couldn’t find that verse, but He showed me another verse that dove even deeper.
I [Paul]who am a prisoner in our Lord request of you, therefore, that you walk just as it is suitable to the calling in which you are called, with all humility [forsaking self-righteousness], and gentleness [maintaining self-control], with patience, bearing with one another in [unselfish] love.
Ephesians 4:1-2
I’m to be not only humble, but also gentle and patient.
In this world where it feels like everything is out of control and the only way to get things going in the right direction is to yell and shove and shame, God asks me to be humble, gentle and patient.
It makes no sense to the human mind, but if God said it, I shouldn’t question it.
Pray for me! This isn’t going to be easy. I’ll pray for you if you’d like, too!
Humility is a long neglected desire these days; pray for you – yes, pray for anyone who would resemble the One who embodies humility. And may you have grace to be humble.
