In my previous post I talked about how wonderful it was to have my whole family involved in a worship team together (https://heatherholbrook.com/2024/03/07/a-cold-and-no-internet/).
As it turned out, the night the group was to lead worship, our daughter needed to work at her catering job, so she couldn’t sing with us.
However, the other singer was healthy and able to continue in her role.
And she brought her son, who is an excellent singer. Now, he hadn’t wanted to sing because, while he had enjoyed being in the local state boy choir years before, he didn’t like to sing since his voice had changed – just like my son. So how did we get him to come?
I lured him there with BBQ.
Because the team needed to have an early run-through, I provided dinner between practice and the event. I always order a little too much food because I just hate not having enough. And when my daughter let me know, right after I had ordered food, that she couldn’t make it, I realized that I had better get more people there to eat, or I would be in trouble with my husband!
So I asked the singer if she would like to invite her children along to hang out and eat supper with us. I was hoping that the two teenagers would pack away a lot of food. They came and did not disappoint.
Because the singer had been looking forward to not being on stage as a soloist, she was able to talk her son into taking my daughter’s place.
It was so beautiful to see another young man step into his gift. And it was sweet to see a new family group united in leading worship.
